Category: Hearing Loss Prevention (HLP)
Diabetes is a highly prevalent chronic condition associated with numerous comorbidities including retinopathy, nephropathy, and peripheral neuropathy. A lesser-known complication is sensorineural hearing loss. Epidemiological data have consistently shown increased risk of hearing loss in patients with diabetes compared to individuals without diabetes. We thus developed The Audiology Project, an audiology initiative comprised of interdisciplinary colleagues, including audiologists, hearing and vestibular scientists, and diabetes educators. We promote early audiological diagnosis and treatment of hearing and balance disorders related to diabetes.
