Instructional Level: Intermediate
Infants with severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) experience prolonged neonatal hospital stays and are at high risk for sensorineural hearing loss. Effective identification and monitoring of hearing loss is important given evidence of improved hearing. Session will review hearing outcomes in children with BPD in relation to a BPD Progress Continuum through illustrative case examples. Adjustments to diagnostic testing protocols and parent counseling in this population may be warranted. A suggested clinical practice protocol will be reviewed.
