Paul Zarkowski, MD, completed a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Case Western Reserve University. He is the author of journal articles on the use of EEG in psychiatric applications. Areas of focus in neurophysiology include using laser evoked potentials to investigate pain processing in patients with chronic pain and using central magnetic evoked potentials to guide TMS in patients with treatment resistant major depression. He is on the psychiatric staff at Sound Mental Health and the clinical faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Washington. Dr. Zarkowski presents regularly in the didactic series for psychiatric residents and medical students on topics including Geriatric Psychiatric Emergencies, Differential Dx of Mood disorders and Anxiety Disorders. He has published book chapters and articles in professional journals on various topics in emergency psychiatry including suicide risk assessment addressing the clinical needs of special populations. Ongoing research interests include strategies for improving psychiatric medication regimens for optimum outcomes.
