Thomas Gutheil, MD, is an internationally known forensic psychiatrist, who has received every major award in the forensic field, as well as many writing and teaching awards. One of his specialties is consultation on problems with boundaries in clinical practice; a significant percentage of his over 300 professional publications feature the same subject; in addition, he has served as consulting or expert witness on about 300 legal cases involving boundary issues in forty-four states.
Dr. Gutheil is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School and was the first Professor of Psychiatry in the history of Harvard Medical School to be board certified in both clinical and forensic psychiatry. At the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, where he has worked for half a century, he co-founded the Program in Psychiatry and the Law, a combination think tank, consultation service and research unit for medicolegal issues. Dr. Gutheil lives and works in the Boston area.
