Remembering Eric Arauz, MLER
Psych Congress pays tribute to Steering Committee member, Eric Arauz, MLER who passed away on March 25, 2018. Close friends and colleagues of Eric will share their memories of him and the impact he had on mental health. These fond memories will be followed by a keynote presentation by Dr. Stephen Porges on the Polyvagal Theory, a theory Eric championed in his lectures and trauma trainings through the country.

Stephen W. Porges, PhD, is a distinguished scientist at Indiana University, where he directs the Trauma Research Center. He holds the position of professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina, and Professor Emeritus at the universities of Illinois and Maryland. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific papers across several disciplines and proposed the Polyvagal Theory, which links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of physiological state in the expression of behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders.

Andrew Penn, RN, MS, NP, APRN-BC, was trained as an adult nurse practitioner and psychiatric clinical nurse specialist at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified as an adult nurse practitioner and psychiatric nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Currently, he serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California-San Francisco School of Nursing where he teaches psychopharmacology. Mr. Penn is also a psychiatric nurse practitioner with Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City, California, where he provides medication and psychotherapeutic treatment for adult patients and specializes in the treatment of affective disorders and trauma. He is a former board member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, California Chapter, and has presented nationally on improving medication adherence, the science of cannabinoids in clinical practice, emerging psychedelic assisted psychotherapy modalities, treatment-resistant depression, diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder, and the art and science of psychopharmacologic practice.
