Dr. Valdiserri joined the faculty of the Department of Health, Behavior & Society, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in February 2016 where he holds the position of Senior Research Associate and Distinguished Scholar. Prior to that time, Dr. Valdiserri spent twenty-six years serving in public health leadership positions within the federal government. He has played a key role in developing policies and programs to control HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STI), tuberculosis (TB) and viral hepatitis at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB and viral hepatitis, Dr. Valdiserri’s federal career has encompassed research experience and policy development in the domains of LGBT health issues and, more broadly, in various efforts to facilitate the dissemination of emerging scientific research into public health practice.
