John Rojas recently joined the NYC Department of Social Services as Deputy Chief Special Services Officer. In this position, he co-manages six program areas, including direct administrative responsibility for the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA), Customized Assistance Services (CAS), and Supportive and Affordable Housing and Services (SAHS). Prior to DSS, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Division Management for the Division of Disease Control at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). In this role, he was responsible for the management and administration of seven bureaus (i.e., HIV, STD, TB, Public Health Laboratory, Communicable Diseases, Immunization, and Division Management & Systems Coordination). Mr. Rojas was also responsible for direct oversight of the Department’s HIV/AIDS housing initiatives, including administration and oversight of the federal Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS grant for the City of New York. He holds a Master of Public Administration in Public Affairs and has over 20+ years of experience designing, implementing, and managing programs serving persons living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable populations.
