Category: Stones: Ureteroscopy
Introduction & Objective : A 42 year old lady with placenta accreta underwent a complicated Caesarean section, for which she required emergency hysterectomy and 18units of blood transfusion. The patient obtained a ureteric injury. Here we show that in high risk patients, a Rendezvous procedure may be a good initial procedure compared to major open surgery,
Methods : It was felt that the patient was at a high risk of complciations if she were to undergo open surgery due to her previous extensive blood loss, The other optons were to leave a nephrostomy in and undergo reconstruction in 3 months time or undergo a minimally invasve Rendezvous procedure. Through the video, we demonstrate the method through which a Rendezvous procedure is performed.
Results : We demonstrate that in this particular case, a Rendezvous procedure was successful in treating the ureteric injury and restoring renal function. Gazzon et al (2016) highlights that in over 50% of patients undergoing a Rendezvous procedure for a ureteric injury or detachment, no further intervention was required in the long term.
Conclusions : The video demonstrates that a Rendezvous procedure is a good alternative to major open surgery and should be considered initially in certain high risk patients with ureteric injury,
