Introduction & Objective : Omission of cortical renorraphies during partial nephrectomies is a safe method that allows preservation of renal parenchyma. Multiple retrospective studies have shown no difference in pseudoaneurysms, arteriovenous fistulas or collecting system leaks when compared to partial nephrectomies with cortical renorraphies. Studies have, however, demonstrated improved volumes and function (based on GFR) with omission of the renorraphy. Here, we present multiple techniques used for closure when omitting the renorraphy.

Methods : Video presentation examining the steps of cortical omission with 3 different base layer closure techniques.

Results : Preserved renal function and volume in 3 cortical omission cases.

Conclusions : Omission of cortical renorraphy is a safe approach to partial nephrectomies that can spare renal function. There are multiple techniques for closure based on choice of suture and needle.
