Introduction & Objective : To evaluate a long-term outcomes of patients with prostate cancer who had extraperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (E-RALP) in a single, tertiary center.

Methods : We retrospectively reviewed 1182 patients who underwent E-RALP for prostate cancer at our institution between August 2007 and June 2014. The patients with inadequate medical records were excluded. Among these patients, 1129 patients were analyzed. The median follow-up after E-RALP was 75 months.

Results : The median operative and console times were 127 min and 57 min, respectively. The mean blood loss was 486.96 ml and transfusion was performed in 32 cases, respectively. There were 65 patients with prior abdominal or pelvic surgery (PAPS), including kidney transplantation and other cancer surgeries, and there were no major complications in performing E-RALP. The complication rate was 1.6%, including rectal injury, bowel injury, and anastomosis site bleeding. The median hospital stay and duration of catheterization were 4 and 11 days, respectively. The pT3-4 patient was 55.9% and the rate of positive surgical margins was 23.1% in pT2 cancers.

Conclusions :

E-RALP can be a safe and effective methods especially in patients with prior abdominal or pelvic surgery.
