Category: Robotic Surgery: New Techniques - Benign
Introduction & Objective : To present a new approach in multiple bladder diverticula with a simultaneous cystoscopy and robotic laparoscopy
Methods : We introduced a 56y old healthy male, that presented to our institution with acute urinary retention that required the colocation of a foley cathether with a non succesful attempt of the withdrawal, with no additional findings during the physical examination
In the Radiologic follow up encounter with 3 big diverticula that was confirmed during the cistoscopy in the posterior wall and both lateral walls.
During the Robotic surgery performed a simultaneous cistoscopy that gives is the exact location of the diverticula neck, to perform a resection of the diverticula, with this approach tried to minimize the healhy bladder tissue to keep the most of the bladder voiding.
During the surgery resected 3 big diverticula and closed the defects with V-Lock suture 2-0, and a small diverticula that was ligated at the base. performed a final filling of the bladder observing no urinary leaks
The patient was discharged from the hospital at the second postoperative day and presented normal voiding since then. the postoperative cystography confirmed that there was no urinary leaks and no residual urine.
Results : The simultaneous robotic approach has the ability to gives a better picture of the disease and perform a better surgery with better outcomes
Conclusions : The robotic and simultaneoys cystoscopy has to be a standard in complex patient with many diverticula to attempt a succesful repair
