By now everyone has heard about Microsoft's hot new Business Intelligence toolset Power BI. What you might not understand yet is how Power BI helps you, the Microsoft Dynamics AX user. This course is tailored for AX power users who want to leverage Microsoft's newest Business Intelligence technology and unleash the insights hidden within their AX data.
A senior BI consultant with eBECS will guide you through the ins and outs of Power BI while sharing best practices from their extensive BI background.
Course will cover:
Introduction to Power BI - This is the start of the journey, getting to know the products that make up Power BI and what each one is for. We will discuss the Dashboard Designer, Power BI Portal, and the Power BI Gateway.
Methods of accessing your AX data from within Power BI - There are two primary methods of accessing data from AX in Power BI, first you can direct query your SQL tables and views and second you can setup OData views to consume in the Dashboard designer. We will discuss the merits of each method and how to decide what will meet your needs.
Creating feeds from AX to consume within Power BI - Here we will show the user how to create an AX view and setup an OData feed around the view. The instructor will then show the student how to both direct query the view in Power BI and also how to consume the OData feed within Power BI.
Building your Tabular model - Once your data has been loaded into Power BI the user then needs to ensure the proper relationships and calculations are modelled to ensure the reports are both accurate and easy to build for the end user.
Building Reports and Dashboards - We have saved the best for last, the instructor will walk the students through creating a set of reports and dashboards using Power BI's intuitive and powerful Dashboard Designer
