342942-3 - Rain Loads in ASCE 7-16 and Beyond
Friday, April 20
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Ballroom C
A presentation by Aaron Lewis of Simpson Gumpertz and Heger on rain load provisions in ASCE 7-16 and beyond. This topic is particularly important in Texas where the rain load hazard is significant. The rain load procedures in ASCE 7 are relatively straight-forward. The complications arise due to the fact that the structural load is a function of parameters (secondary drain size and spacing) which are under the control of other professionals (architects and plumbing engineers). Furthermore without appropriate collaboration, these plumbing decisions are frequently made well after the structural design has been completed. Please note that Aaron is a member of the ASCE 7-16 Snow and Rain Load subcommittee as is under contract to co-author a Rain Load Guide for ASCE Press.
