342942-2 - Improvemnets to ASCE 7 Drift Load Provisions

Friday, April 20
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Ballroom C

A presentation by John Cocca of WJE on the potential improvement in current snow drifts relations via inclusion of a Winter Wind parameter. At present in ASCE 7 snow drift size is a function of up-wind fetch and ground snow load. John will show that these provisions tend to underestimate drift size in windy locales (e.g., the Dakotas) and overestimate drift size in calmer locales (e.g., the Pacific Northwest). Please note that John has been an active member of the ASCE 7 Snow and Rain Load subcommittee for both the 7-10 and 7-16 cycles
