It will cover important new initiatives at (ISC)² to expand our association’s role in the cybersecurity profession, and provide critical new guidance and support for our membership. In addition to these exciting new programs, the session will also provide a detailed overview of risk management principles outlining why the Lexicon Project is so important. You will learn the underpinnings of our profession, and how elements such as risk, vulnerabilities, ad threat are mathematically related. John McCumber

Director of Cybersecurity Advocacy
(ISC)²

Mr. McCumber is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and former Cryptologic Fellow of the National Security Agency. During his military career, Mr. McCumber served in the Defense Information Systems Agency and on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon as Information Warfare Officer during the Persian Gulf War. Mr. McCumber recently served as Chair of the TechAmerica Cybersecurity Committee. For eight years, he was a Professorial Lecturer in Information Security at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and is currently a technical editor and columnist for Security Technology Executive magazine. Mr. McCumber is the author of the textbook "Assessing and Managing Security Risk in IT Systems: A Structured Methodology" from Auerbach Publications. Recently, Mr. McCumber served as the interim CISO for a post-breach Federal contractor.

Mr. McCumber holds a Master of Business Administration from Western New England University. He has current and former faculty status with: the National Cryptologic School, Defense Intelligence College, DoD Security Institute, Eastern Michigan University and The George Washington University. Mr. McCumber holds numerous certifications from the National Cryptologic School, the DoD Security Institute and the Defense Intelligence College among others.

During his career, Mr. McCumber has held security clearances with the National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, and The Joint Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon.
