With the era of net-metering fading, the PV regulatory landscape is changing. This half-day class will focus on rate structures including time-of-use, higher fixed fees, and demand charges, and investigate how these will affect system design, cost, and ROI. We will explore the basics of storage technologies and integrated systems management, smart inverters, and how to design and program systems when there is no net-metering. These concepts will be further explored as we look at a case study of a system in Hawaii (HECO territory) where new “self-supply” tariffs were enacted. This class will be based on residential-scale PV systems with and without energy storage.
