Bill Brooks and Sean White recently published a book, "Photovoltaic Systems and the National Electric Code" and are well versed in the NEC. Now that PV is on the cover of the NEC and there are new articles affecting the industry, such as 691 Large-Scale PV Electric Supply Stations, 706 Energy Storage Systems, 710 Stand-Alone Systems, 712 DC Micro-Grid Systems. This workshop will be jam-packed with 2017 NEC insight and interpretation. Bill Brooks was instrumental in writing the NEC and Sean White teaches PV courses around the world. They will team up and fill you up with as much information as possible in one day, while entertaining you at the same time. There will be special emphasis on the rapid shutdown and interconnection requirements of the Code. Bill has coined the term "rapid shutdown" and nobody understands it better. There will be new requirements that take effect January 2019, which we will cover thoroughly.

There are many changes in the 2017 NEC. Everything that you thought you knew about grounding has functionally changed. 1500V systems, voltage and current definitions, labeling, be prepared!

In addition to the 2017 NEC, you will get insight into the 2020 NEC, which is being ironed out. It is important to understand the future.

Every time Bill and Sean teach a course, the material will be covered in a different way. Make sure to reserve a seat. The last two years were sold out.

This course will count for 8 hours of NABCEP continuing education requirements in every category and will also count for prerequisites for NABCEP Certification.

Bill Brooks, MSME, EEPE, EEME

Principal
Brooks Engineering

Bill Brooks PE, has over 25 years of experience designing, installing, and evaluating
grid-connected PV systems. More than 12,000 installers and inspectors have attended
his courses throughout the U.S. and abroad. His field troubleshooting skills have been
valuable in determining where problems occur to focus training on those issues of
greatest need. He has written several important technical manuals for the industry that
are now widely used throughout the United States and beyond. His recent publications
include the Expedited Permit Process for PV Systems, the Field Inspection Guidelines
for PV Systems, and Understanding the CalFire Solar PV Installation Guidelines, as well
as articles in Photon and SolarPro magazines.

He is actively involved in the developments of PV codes and standards including IEEE-
929 and IEEE1547 (PV Utility Interconnection), the National Electrical Code (NEC®)
Article 690 (Solar Photovoltaic Systems), and IEC TC82 (international PV standards).
Mr. Brooks is an active participant on many codes and standards panels including Code
Making Panel 4 of the National Electrical Code, UL1703 and UL1741 Standards
Technical Panels, and IEC TC82 Working Group 3 and 6. Mr. Brooks was a member of
the California Office of the State Fire Marshal’s (Cal Fire) PV Task force that developed
the Solar Photovoltaic Installation Guideline, which became the model for national fire
regulation. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from North
Carolina State University and is a registered Professional Mechanical and Electrical
Engineer.

Sean White, IREC Trainer of the Year

Professor/IREC Certified Master Trainer
Diablo Valley College/White House Solar

Sean White is an Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC/ISPQ) Certified PV Master Trainer and Accredited Training Provider. Sean is also a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installation Professional, a NABCEP PV Entry Level Program Provider, a California Licensed Electrician, a California Licensed Solar Contractor, a professor at Diablo Valley College, author and PV instructor who has taught thousands of students in the USA, Philippines, Canada, China, South Africa, Mongolia, South Africa and Qatar. Sean was on the NABCEP PV Installer Exam Committee and helped author the NABCEP PV Installer Task Analysis. Sean also is on the energy storage committee of the Solar ABCS PV Industry Stakeholder Group.

Sean teaches classes on a regular basis for various entities, such as Diablo Valley College in California, MERALCO (the main utility in the Philippines), Solar Universe in California, Kaplan across the USA and for many other organizations.

Sean excels at making difficult concepts easy to understand. He is a fun and entertaining speaker. Sean is always working on many projects. Whatever time it is, there is always a PV system that is producing power that Sean has worked on around the world.

Sean has presented 8-hour workshops at Solar Power International and ASES. Additionally Sean has presented at SNEC Shanghai, Africa PVSEC Durban, SEMI/CPTIC Shanghai, and Merisis Beijing and Shanghai.

Sean has a big commute and spends much of his time in California and the Philippines or often at a solar event somewhere in between. Sean is currently installing a 0.0001 MW (do the math) PV system on a wind-powered boat “Stella Blue” in the San Francisco Bay.
