Jeremiah Miller, MSME, MEEP, PE

Jeremiah Miller is a Technology Manager for the Systems Integration team, joining the Solar Office in October 2016. Prior to this role, Jeremiah was a senior power systems smart grid analyst for Smarter Grid Solutions, where he worked with European and North American utilities to support massive wind and solar energy deployments on distribution grids via grid-edge automation controls that enable the dynamic grid hosting capacity. Through this work, he supported enabling transactive grids, community microgrids, and utility of the future efforts in New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV). Prior to this, he was a solar ombudsman in New York City where he supported market transformation and resilient distributed generation through streamlined permitting, distribution system capacity mapping, and innovative power electronics and energy storage applications.

Aminul Huque, PhD

Principal Project Manager

Dr. Aminul Huque is currently working as a Principal Project Manager in the Integration of Distributed Energy Resources group at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). His research focus includes smart-inverters, interconnection standards, PV, energy storage, and load integration, and microgrid. He is leading multiple DER research projects to investigate benefits and challenges of smart inverters and DER control optimization. Dr. Huque facilitated the IEEE 1547 voltage regulation subgroup and is an active member of the IEEE 1547 working group. He received a PhD from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (Tennessee, USA), and an MSc from the Imperial College London (London, UK) in 2010 and 2003 respectively.

Russell Shaver

AE SHINES Technical Lead
Austin Energy

Russell Shaver is a senior engineer whose current role at Austin Energy is Technical Lead for AE SHINES, a three-year demonstration project to integrate solar power, energy storage, smart inverters, forecasting tools, market signals and a control optimization platform with the goal of enabling high penetrations of distributed solar on the grid. From the initial DOE SunShot Initiative grant application through the current stage of equipment deployment, Russell has played key roles ranging from team leader to subject matter expert. Through the design and implementation across residential, commercial and grid-side applications, he has been focused on economic analysis, site design and coordination, vendor procurement, equipment acceptance testing, systems integration, and value proposition characterization.

Russell has more than 25 years of experience as an electric utility professional, including engineering analysis, program development, strategic planning, marketing, project management and team leadership. Following his passion for sustainable energy, Russell joined the energy efficiency services of Austin Energy as a volunteer in 1993. Since that time he has enjoyed a wide diversity of engagements at Austin Energy, including several years in the Green Building Program, commercial building energy management programs and oversight of the demand response programs. Russell joined the Electric Vehicle and Emerging Technology group in 2011, where he has focused on new technology research and evaluation of distributed energy resources and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Russell received his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Binghamton University, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Russell also holds certifications as a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Energy Engineer from the Association of Energy Engineers.

Emma Stewart

Deputy Associate Program Leader
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Emma Stewart is a Deputy Associate Program Leader for Infrastructure Systems at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, in the area of Cyber and Infrastructure Resilience, Global Security. She received her PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2009 from University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Prior to joining LLNL she led grid Integration and Distribution Analysis at Lawrence Berkeley national lab.
Her research focuses on the distribution grid and analytics associated with high penetration of distributed resources.
