Elliot Hinds is a corporate and energy Partner at Crowell & Moring, among the largest law firms in the U.S. Mr. Hinds has extensive energy experience, having structured transactions to develop, finance, purchase and sell renewable (including wind, geothermal, solar and biomass), energy storage, natural gas, cogeneration and coal-fired electric power projects; LNG and bioethanol facilities; and transportation projects. He was recognized as one of the “Top 25 Clean Tech Lawyers in California” by the Daily Journal in 2011. Mr. Hinds received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Dan Berwick

Borrego Solar Systems

Dan Berwick is General Manager of Borrego Solar’s Energy Storage Division, with executive responsibility for all aspects of that division. Dan joined Borrego Solar in 2010, and has previously served as the company’s Director of Policy and Business Development and later as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development. In those roles, Dan managed policy and government affairs for the company, and also led Borrego Solar’s market expansion efforts in New York, as well the development of Borrego Solar’s third-party O&M business. Prior to joining Borrego Solar, Dan worked on renewable energy policy reform at the Texas House of Representatives. He’s also worked in the utilities practice area at The Brattle Group, an economic consulting firm, and he supported Federal policy efforts for the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. Dan earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Sloan School of Management and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Nick Esch joined SEPA as a Research Associate in August, 2015 after interning with the research team since January, 2015. Nick manages SEPA's Utility Solar Database and assists in the day-to-day responsibilities of SEPA's Advisory Services and Research teams. Nick holds a Bachelors in Environmental Science from the University of Albany and Masters Degree in Solar Energy Engineering and Commercialization from Arizona State University.

Juliana is the Director of Market Development and Policy at ENGIE Storage. She brings experience working on market strategy, business development and policy across the renewable energy sector. She is also on the board of directors of the Energy Storage Association. Prior to ENGIE Storage, Juliana spent time at GE, Sungevity, and working abroad in Latin America. She holds a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and a master's degree from Columbia University.

Manal Yamout

Senior Vice President, Policy and Markets
Advanced Microgrid Solutions

Manal leads government and regulatory affairs, focused on developing policies in new and established markets.

She most recently served as Director of Government Affairs for NextEra Energy / Florida, Power & Light—the country's largest clean energy company. Prior to this, she served as renewable energy advisor to both California Governors Brown and Schwarzenegger. Manal jointly coordinated California's effort to bring the state closer to its goal of providing at least 33% of electricity from renewables and worked to streamline permitting for tens of billions in in-state investment and ultimately 16,000 megawatts of electricity. In addition, she helped lay the foundation for Governor Brown's energy program to develop 12,000 megawatts of distributed power in California. Prior to her time as an Advisor to Governor Schwarzenegger, Manal served as California's Assistant Secretary for International Trade, Special Assistant to First Lady Maria Shriver and as an Executive Fellow in the Office of the Governor. Manal holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and a degree in Biology from CSU San Marcos.
