Join two Biomek i-Series adopters at SLAS 2018 for a luncheon tutorial to discuss how the new workstations are supporting their NGS workflows and delivering on a promise to address their NGS sample prep workflows challenges from whole genome sequencing to growing technologies such as single-cell sequencing, ATAC Seq, and everything in between. Tutorial attendees will learn about:

1. Utilizing automation to address workflow challenges regardless of lab size or throughput
2. How customers are using new Biomek i-Series NGS configurations to automate epigenetic assays and other sample prep workflows
3. Improving workflow efficiency to achieve repeatable reliable results that drive discovery

David Gorkin

Associate Director of Epigenomics
UCSD Center for Epigenomics

Dr. Gorkin is the Associate Director of Epigenomics at the UCSD Center for Epigenomics, where he directs a team of researchers in developing and applying epigenomic technologies. Prior to joining the Center, Dr. Gorkin was the project manager for the San Diego ENCODE data production center led by Dr. Bing Ren, and remains an active contributor to the ENCODE and 4D Nucleome consortia. He was also an A.P. Giannini Foundation postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Ren’s laboratory, where his research focused on the roles of histone modifications and 3D genome organization in the regulation of gene expression. Dr. Gorkin received his Ph.D. in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where his work in Dr. Andrew McCallion’s lab focused on the epigenomics of melanocytes (pigment cells), and their role in human pigmentation.

Dr. Gorkin is also passionate about teaching. He lectures at UCSD, San Diego State University (SDSU), and San Diego City Community College. As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Gorkin was part of the NIH-funded Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) program, which provides postdoctoral fellows with training in pedagogy and mentorship, and aims to increase diversity in STEM. He was also high school science teacher in New York City prior to attending graduate school.
