The process of lead optimization consists of preparing analogs of biologically active molecules and assessing their viability as potential drug candidates. Minimizing the lag time between chemical design and biological data generation in this iterative cycle will lead to an increase in drug discovery efficiency. The Hamilton Microlab VANTAGE Liquid Handling System and Verso automated sample storage system have been integrated to create a novel, fully automated chemical inventory and compound synthesis platform driven by a laboratory information management system (LIMS). As an illustration of the capabilities integrated platform, a round of automated synthesis of corticotropin releasing factor receptor (CRF1) antagonists will be presented.
I am a medicinal chemist that designs and synthesizes small molecules for neurological disorders. I spent the early years of my career working in high throughput screening, and brought those principals to medicinal chemistry to build automated chemical storage and synthesis platforms. I joined Neurocrine Biosciences as an intern in 2001 and graduated from the University of California – San Diego with a B.S. in chemistry in 2003.
