Carlo joined the HTS/Molecular Pharmacology department at Amgen, Thousand Oaks, CA 18 years ago as a biologist and used fully-automated screening platforms and stand-alone work stations to perform small molecule HTS. Over the years, the department has changed names multiple times, the automation pendulum has swung back-and-forth, and 5 years engaged in automated mass spectrometry with the Agilent RapidFire, but the job remained the same. A few years ago, Amgen entered the 1,536-well screening world with a fully-automated, robotic platform from GNF. Carlo is the biologist operator of the platform who complements the engineer operator to deliver confirmed hits to the project teams.
