A bank’s Compliance function monitors employee activities to mitigate its legal and reputational risks. It’s a tough task for two reasons; firstly, the data comes from a variety of systems on different platforms with little in common so transforming the data into a consistent model is a challenge. Secondly the data is reluctant to give up its secrets – it is more open to interpretation and less clear cut compared to the financial data generated by the bank. This session will demonstrate an employee compliance reporting proof of concept in Power BI and discuss how it addresses these challenges especially in the design of the data model that underpins the whole analysis, the queries that import data from the disparate sources and wrangle it into the data model and the reports that try to draw insight from this observational data.
