One in every three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s Disease or another dementia. Dementia is the second largest contributor to death among older Americans, second only to heart failure. Led by a group of recognized experts in the field, this symposium will focus on the emerging nutrition science in dementia prevention with a focus on the roles of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutritional strategies for the prevention of dementia. More research is needed to better understand the link between inflammation, abdominal obesity, vascular health, dietary components including polyphenol phytonutrients, carotenoids including lutein, omega-3 fatty acids, physical activity and the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease if we are to find a preventive regimen that works. It is hoped that this symposium will spark greater interest in nutritional research on the prevention of dementia.
