This presentation addresses shortcomings in the contextual examination and implementation of STEM talent development, offering insight starting at the beginning of the STEM pipeline – home and community. The findings of an applied study that included parents of gifted, Black students enrolled in a school-within-a-school magnet program are reported. Implications for gifted programming for discipline-based talent development for underrepresented students are offered.
