Gretchen Cook-Anderson is the award-winning Director of Diversity Recruiting & Advising at IES Abroad. Gretchen oversees IES' Initiative to Diversify Education Abroad (IDEA), the organization's sustained effort to increase enrollment and enhance the study abroad experience of students of diverse and underrepresented identities. She is a marketing and PR professional with 12 years of experience in international education marketing and 25 years experience in the marketing field overall. An IES Abroad alum (Nagoya, Japan), Gretchen holds a B.A. in political science from Spelman College and a M.A. in international economics from Johns Hopkins University's Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Over the last 7 years, her efforts have led to 96% growth in participation among ethnically-diverse students in IES Abroad programs. Her work garnered the Diversity Abroad EDIIE Award in 2014 and 2016. In 2018, IES Abroad's student diversity Initiative marks 10 years and celebrates attracting more than 10,000 students through a commitment to make study abroad accessible to students as diverse as the locations around the world where they study.
