How do your international admissions procedures foster student success and perseverance beyond the application? This workshop takes you through factors that will help your international admissions team to identify applicants who have high probability of success, reduce postacceptance attrition, and work with campus partners to support international student transition to your campus community. Intended for professionals who work with international applicants to U.S. institutions.

Michelle Kowalsky, M.ED

Director of International Admissions
Western New England University

Michelle is the Director of International Admissions at Western New England University. She has worked in International Admissions/Education for the past 15 years starting at Catawba College. Since 2005, Michelle has been working with undergraduate and graduate international students at WNE through the admission and recruitment process. Michelle also serves on the IPCC at WNEU which is a committee dedicated to internationalizing the campus. Outside the office, she has served as Chair of Study Massachusetts, is a member of Trainer Corps, and served on the Region XI Leadership Team.

Candice Chan

Dean of International Admissions
Furman University

Candice Chan, originally from Hong Kong is the Dean of International Admissions at Furman University. Prior to joining Furman, she was Director of International Admissions at Widener University, where she serves on multiple committees on campus that promotes Global Engagement and Campus Internationalization. She also held various positions in enrollment management at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. Presented at regional and national NAFSA conferences, was a mentor at Region VIII and a current member of the NAFSA Trainer Corps.

Marco Chavez

Senior Assistant Director for International Recruitment
The Ohio State University-Columbus Undergraduate Admissions

Marco Chávez earned two BA degrees from Oregon State University and his MA from Bowling Green State University. During the time he was earning his degrees he became interested in admissions and in international education through his on-campus jobs and study abroad experiences. This interest led him to his current role as the Senior Assistant Director for International Recruitment at The Ohio State University where he has been since 2006. During this time he has helped recruit students from all over the world and has also shared his knowledge of international admissions at national and international conferences and workshops.
