D5 - Creating Resilient Communities: Using a Multi-Pronged Approach to Deliver Psychological First Aid to Increase Capacity and Address Behavioral Health Needs Following a Disaster

Wednesday, July 11
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Location: St. Charles

The lack of behavioral health resources available to communities is often a problem following a disaster. A collaborative project between the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and the Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa Medical Reserve Corps was undertaken to address this problem. Participants from both institutions worked to develop a multi-pronged approach to build capacity to deliver Psychological First Aid training to a wide range of community members. The result was a successful project that has created a cadre of Psychological First Aid trainers, delivered training to over 200 community members, and created an online curriculum that can be used as a skills refresher or just-in-time training.
