Concurrent Session

Concurrent Group IV



The concurrent sessions cover topics from across the spectrum of stem cell research. Each session, framed by a brief topic overview, includes one or two invited speakers whose work highlights leading research in the field. The session is rounded out with four or more abstract-selected speakers who, combined with the invited talks, give an excellent snapshot of the most current work on the topic. The five concurrent sessions run in parallel and attendees are encouraged to move between sessions to hear talks of interest. Concurrent sessions are held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons.

Sara Wickström

Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, Germany

Sara Wickström studied medicine at the University of Helsinki, Finland, receiving her MD in 2001 and PhD in 2004. After postdoctoral training with Reinhard Fässler at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Munich, Germany, she was appointed as Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne, Germany in 2010. In 2018 her laboratory moved to the newly founded Helsinki Institute for Life Science at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Research in the Wickström lab aims to establish quantitative principles of epidermal stem cell niche self-organization, and how mechanical forces and cellular interactions integrate single cell behaviors to generate and maintain global patterns of a multicellular tissue.

Yi Arial Zeng

Yi Arial Zeng is a principal investigator at Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research interest is to reveal the identity of adult stem cells, understand their regulatory mechanisms, determine how these mechanisms have been hijacked in diseases, and learn how to manipulate the key players for the purposes of regenerative and cancer medicine. She currently focuses her research efforts on mammary stem cells and breast cancers.
