Concurrent Group II

The concurrent sessions cover topics from across the spectrum of stem cell research. Each session, framed by a brief topic overview, includes one or two invited speakers whose work highlights leading research in the field. The session is rounded out with four or more abstract-selected speakers who, combined with the invited talks, give an excellent snapshot of the most current work on the topic. The five concurrent sessions run in parallel and attendees are encouraged to move between sessions to hear talks of interest. Concurrent sessions are held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons.

Angelo Lombardo

San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy, Italy

Angelo Lombardo (PhD) is Group Leader at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget) and Assistant Professor of Tissue Biology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, Italy. During his PhD and Postdoctoral studies, he significantly contributed to the field of targeted genome editing by developing innovative gene transfer technologies for the delivery of artificial nucleases, exploiting them in relevant disease models and characterizing their genome-wide specificity. His research now focuses on targeted epigenetic editing, a novel technology that exploits engineered transcriptional repressors to permanently silence genes of therapeutic relevance. His lab is also using these tools to study basic principles of gene regulation and transmission of epigenetic information.

Haoyi Wang

Dr. Haoyi Wang set up his own lab at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese academy of Sciences in 2014 as a principal investigator. His lab focuses on developing novel technologies to achieve more efficient and specific genome and epigenome editing, and applying them to generate genetically modified animal models and establish novel therapeutic approaches. Since its establishment, Wang lab has developed “ZEN” method for high throughput delivery of CRISPR reagent into mouse zygotes, established “Casilio” method for transcription and epigenetic regulation, and achieved efficient multiplex gene editing in CAR-T cells. Another main research interest of the lab is to study the characteristics of naïve pluripotency in human embryonic stem cells.

Danwei Huangfu is an Associate Professor in the Developmental Biology Program at Sloan Kettering Institute of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The Huangfu lab is interested in embryonic development and stem cell biology. The lab applies precision genetics in human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), including both embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells, to understand both conserved and non-conserved aspects of human development and disease mechanisms. In particular, the lab has focused on studying diseases that affect the pancreas, including diabetes and pancreatic cancer; and the regulation of DNA methylation during hPSC self-renewal and differentiation.
