Dr. J.M. Beekman became principle investigator in 2010 at the department of Pediatric Pulmonology of the University Medical Centre Utrecht, focussing on the development of personalized medicine applications using adult stem cell technologies. His lab developed the first clinical application of intestinal organoids for personalized drug screening in cystic fibrosis. This work led to successful treatments of patients, and shows how adult stem cells may transform future clinical care.
