Alan H. Matsumoto, M.D. FSIR, FACR, FAHA, received his Medical Degree in 1980 from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. He completed Residencies in Internal Medicine at the University of Massachusetts and Diagnostic Radiology at the University of North Carolina, and Fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Georgetown University. Dr. Matsumoto is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology, and Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology.
He is currently Professor of Radiology and Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Virginia, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1991. He has been involved with the training of more than 200 Diagnostic Radiology Residents and 100 VIR Fellows. His clinical practice has included caring for and treating patients with peripheral arterial, aortic, renal and mesenteric vascular, fibromuscular dysplasia and venous thromboembolic disease, as well as embolization and MR-guided focused ultrasound therapy for fibroids and other tumors. His patient-oriented and collaborative working relationship with other medical specialists has led to optimization of care in patients with complex vascular, biliary, genitourinary and oncologic diseases.
