The technology behind Bitcoin (i.e., blockchain) is revolutionizing the global economy. Blockchain companies like Ripple and Stellar Lumens are enabling banks to transact with other banks and provide faster, efficient cross-border transactions. Furthermore, the distributed ledger technology is not just restricted to the banking or financial world. Blockchain technology has the potential to disrupt nearly every industry including healthcare, supply chain management, media, advertising, gambling, cloud and cybersecurity.
The inherent nature of blockchain eliminates the single point of failure and makes it extremely difficult to change or remove data once it is recorded on the blockchain ledger. Interestingly, information security works towards the same goal, i.e. to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.
