3412 - Through the Looking Glass: The New Future of Compliance and Security is Now

Wednesday, October 10
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Location: Floor 2: Galerie 5

Public and hybrid cloud, IoT and AI applications push convenience while linking to applications through mobile gateways and extended infrastructures. With that, these new technologies are redefining security and operational liabilities related to supply chain risks. At the same time, the due diligence implications of GDPR, DFARS, CUI and the draft implications of NIST SP 800-53, Rev. 5 provide updated and challenging requirements directly linked to data flow and information risk management. The session will discuss the data fluidity aspects of cybersecurity, including specific NIST 800-53, Rev 5 issues applicable to real world AI and IoT scenarios. Attendees have the opportunity to bring examples to discuss or potentially apply adapted cyber risk management for these new requirements.

Maria Horton, CISSP, ISSMP, Cloud Essentials, IAM is the CEO and founder of EmeSec Incorporated. Maria has more than once succeeded at implementing new technologies in new fields. She conducted the first nationwide research on the roles of telemedicine and telenursing in the late '90s. Anticipating that recent compliance and cybersecurity changes may challenge small and medium sized businesses, Maria created the #SimplifyCUI service to assist and advocate cybersecurity and compliance in an action-packed manner. Her subscription service for SMBs received two national awards in 2017. She is routinely requested to provide commentary and discussion on technology, compliance, cloud and cybersecurity. She participates in evaluating new capabilities through AFCEA Shark Tank, mentors small businesses and is a frequent author for a variety of magazines and journals.
