A strong understanding of risk management principals has been the new call to action for information security professionals. This is surely a necessary component of developing a strong information security posture, but maintaining a firm grasp and understanding of the cyber threat landscape remains foundational in establishing world-class security. This session examines the threat landscape and places emphasis on basic risk management principals needed to convey the need for resources to the C-suite and boards of directors.

M. K. Palmore serves as the leader of the San Francisco FBI-CyB. His responsibilities include the strategic and operational management of cyber intrusion investigators, computer scientists and digital forensics personnel charged with conducting investigations of CNE and CNA in both the criminal and national security intrusion realms. He entered duty with the FBI in 1997. His assignments, in addition to San Francisco, have included FBIHQ (Washington, D.C.), Sacramento, Los Angeles and several overseas engagements. In addition to his duties with the FBI, M.K. serves as an adjunct faculty member of Pepperdine's Graziadio Business School. His certifications include the CISSP, CISM and the Carnegie Mellon University CISO Certificate. He earned a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy and a MBA from Pepperdine University. Prior to the FBI, M.K. served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
