I am a PICU Practice Nurse Educator at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. As part of the multidisciplinary team on PICU at The Royal Brompton Hospital we have designed and implements a training update day for all of the ECMO specialist nurses’. The programme has a key focus on the use clinical simulation and practical workshops to ensure staff are confident and highly skilled in managing ECMO emergencies. The title of the poster presentation is “Clinical simulation improves confidence and clinical skills in ECMO emergency scenarios”

Debra Hillier, MD, is an Instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and an Attending Hospitalist at Boston Children's Hospital, in the Division of Medicine Critical Care. Her clinical work has spanned the fields of pediatric inpatient medicine, pediatric critical care, pediatric emergency medicine, and pediatric sedation medicine. Her area of academic expertise is medical education, with a focus on simulation-based learning. She has developed multiple curricula for a broad range of learner levels and disciplines, including medical students at the undergraduate level, general and categorical pediatric residents, pediatric fellows, nurses, nurse practitioners, and attending physicians. Her teaching sessions can range from small group simulations, to didactic lectures, to large audience skills seminars. In addition to an interest in interprofessional education and team-based learning through simulation, Dr. Hillier has cultivated a passion for simulation-based procedural skills learning and assessment, and the determination of procedural competency.

Ashley is a Paediatric Simulation Fellow working at New Cross Hospital in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom. The post is in its third year and has been presenting work both nationally and internationally during that time. Ashley is currently in Paediatric training in the West Midlands and became interested in simulation as a candidate when seeing the benefits it brought to the team and how it combined with existing interests in education. Other areas of interest include General Paediatrics and inter-speciality working. He is undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Simulation at the University of Birmingham to supplement the Simulation Fellow post.

Jenni Sokol (FRACP, FCICM, MHPE, GCCS) is the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Head of Simulation and has been involved in Simulation-based Education for the past 14 years. She has led the RCH Simulation Program and the Simulation Team since its commencement in June 2015, focusing on training to improve patient safety, management of the deteriorating patient, and communication within teams and with families and patients, to improve clinical outcomes across the hospital. Jenni also works as Consultant Neonatologist with the Victorian Paediatric, Infant, Perinatal, Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) Service at the RCH and is trained in Neonatology and Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine.
