Estimating Parameters for an Effective Sediment Basin or Trap

Too often, the only criteria used to develop a sediment basin or trap is ensuring sufficient containment volume exists to capture 250 cubic metres/ha (3,600 cubic feet/ac.) of runoff. This presentation will demonstrate why containment volume alone is not adequate and provide equations that estimate parameters for such structures. In addition, updates of mínimum containment volumes will be presented for different climatic regions.
