Erosion and Sediment Control
Product Case Study
Level of Presentation: All: Suitable for a broad audience
ProGanicsâ"¢ Biotic Soil Mediaâ"¢ (BSMâ"¢) is continuing to revolutionize the way we approach revegetating sites. For years we have relied on installing "Topsoil" as a Best Management Practice (BMP) to establish a healthy stand of vegetation and close out sites. Simply specifying "Topsoil" has been an extremely common practice with no real explanation as to why a certain depth is required or what acceptable physical and chemical requirements of this "topsoil" are. Even when physical or chemical requirements are listed associated testing frequency and methodology are often not. By reviewing a chemical and physical analysis of the substrate that is native to the project we are better able to predict whether or not engineering and amending the in-situ substrate with Engineered Soil Media is a feasible option.
Join Matt Welch to review a Case Study where ProGanics BSM effectively replaced the topsoil component of the project specification and saved the project owners money, time, and ultimately reduced many of the impacts that the importation of topsoil would have inflicted.

Technical and Business Development Manager
Matt Welch, CPESC, CESSWI, is the Technical and Business Development Manager for Profile Products, LLC, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Welch heads up Profile Products Free Soil Testing program and online design software – Profile Soil Solutions Software (www.ProfilePS3.com). He works closely with specifiers to ensure that all erosion and sediment control plans, involving Profile’s line of products, will have a high rate of success.
Welch holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Conservation and Environmental Sciences from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, with an emphasis on land resources and soil science. During and after college, Welch worked at an engineering and consulting firm out of Green Bay, WI. The firm he worked with was heavily involved with the erosion control and reclamation of land; many of which were linear transmission line projects. This experience ultimately led to a smooth transition into the technical department at Profile Products.
