This is a technical paper describing the use of erosion control methods in the mitigation of mercury contaminated mine waste sites in an old mercury mining district along a stream channel in northern California.

Mr. Myers has over 42 years of experience in geotechnical and geological engineering. His experience includes mine facility environmental containment design for tailings dams, clear water storage reservoirs, heap leach pad and pond systems, waste rock storage facilities, open pit slope design, seepage collection and treatment facilities, surface water diversions, and haul road/access roads. Mr. Myers has also served as the engineer of record for the design of numerous mine closure and reclamation projects including the dewatering and capping of tailings dams, regrading and capping of waste rock storage facilities and heap leach pads including geomorphic based design, regrading to minimize visual impacts, design of vegetative covers, acid rock drainage treatment systems, land application systems, self maintaining diversion systems, and full stream restoration. Mr. Myers’ experience in general civil and geotechnical engineering includes landslide analysis and mitigation, earth and rockfill dam design, dam breach analyses and inundation mapping, sediment transport analysis, surface water hydrology and flood analysis, channel design, stream restoration design, remote sensing/multispectral satellite image analysis, slope stability analysis and design, and geologic hazard mapping and analysis.
