The session will help the attendees to better understand not only what is happening in Washington and why, but also how they can influence the process to ensure that their voice is heard in the halls of power.

Learning Objectives:

Andrew S. Wright

President
Wright Strategies, LLC

Andy Wright is a succcessful advocate who consistently produces solution-based results through issue advocacy campaigns that include public affairs, grassroots engagement, staff leadership, coalition management and lobbying. Andy has twice been named by the Hill Magazine as one of Washington’s “Top Lobbyists” and a Washington Life Magazine survey of Capitol Hill staffers singled him out as one of Washington’s “friendliest” lobbyists.

Andy has a proven record of over 30 years experience in Washington and state capitals as a lobbyist, association executive and Capitol Hill staffer. Prior to founding his own company, Wright Strategies, LLC, in 2014 he served as Chief of Staff for two senior Members of Congress, President of the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association, led the Washington office of an international pubic affairs firm, and was Partner in a national law firm.

Andy is a subject matter expert on energy and environment issues. He maintains strong connections on Capitol Hill in both House and Senate and on both sides of the aisle as well as with the Administration, regulators, industry and opinion leaders.

Two illustrative successes:

During the climate change debate, Andy formed and led a coalition of the nation’s largest coal burning utilities. The coalition advocated aggressively with lawmakers regarding the cost and disparate impact of some of the proposals under consideration. The coalition accomplished its goals and the final Senate bill reflected all of its top priorities.

Created and led a diverse coalition working to modernize the United States electricity grid. The coalition was responsible for adding the Smart Grid title in the Energy Independence and Security Act. The law created a program to help utilities fund the rollout of the Smart Grid. He then successfully advocated for more than $4 billion in appropriations to fund the program.
