This is a course on anionic polyacrylamides and the important specifications and characteristics that influence their effective use in erosion control and water clarification applications. This course will take an in depth look at the chemical characteristics of PAMs as well as physical BMPs used in conjunction with PAMs that are needed for successful use. This course will also use examples to teach participants how to calculate correct application rates for powder, liquid, and block log PAM forms based on product specifications, toxicity reports, and site characteristics. The goal of this course is to aid participants in turning on paper PAM specifications into practical and successful PAM field applications.

Kyla J. Iwinski recently began working with Applied Polymer Systems in the fall of 2016 to research and develop new polymer uses and technologies and to assist with technical training. She has spent the last few years as a researcher at Clemson University where her doctoral studies focused on water resource management and ecotoxicology. Specifically, her work focuses on the fate and effects of inorganic and organic constituents in aquatic systems and management of harmful algae. Prior to completing her PhD at Clemson, she earned a Masters in Biology at Northern Michigan University where she investigated the feasibility of polyacrylamides to flocculate cyanobacteria.
