Stormwater Management

Half-Day Training Course

Best Practices for Construction and Maintenance of Green Infrastructure

Sunday, February 11
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

PDH: 4

Location: 103C

This course will focus on best practices for construction (including case studies) and maintenance of post-construction stormwater BMPs, including bioretention, permeable pavement, and other green infrastructure practices. Specific examples of principles of construction will be covered, including common construction errors. Methods to maximize infiltration and ensure long-term hydraulic performance (maintenance) will also be covered.

Learning Objectives:

Ryan J. Winston

Research Assistant Professor
Ohio State University

Dr. Ryan Winston is a professional engineer and Research Assistant Professor in the Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering Department at Ohio State University. His research and teaching focuses on the performance of post-construction urban stormwater BMPs to reduce surface water pollution. He has designed, installed, and monitored BMPs in six U.S. states. Over the past decade, Ryan has taught more than 100 workshops related to BMP design, modeling, construction, and maintenance. He has been involved with construction oversight of countless BMP implementation and research projects, and has many "lessons learned" related to best construction practices of urban post-construction BMPs, including bioretention and permeable pavement, that will be shared in this IECA workshop. Ryan formerly worked with Dr. Bill Hunt at North Carolina State University for almost a decade. It was there that his love for stormwater BMPs blossomed. He is a professional engineer in North Carolina and Ohio.
