Large group discussion on how programs and contractors are innovating to grow the number, types, and depth of home performance projects. Selected participants will briefly present a market barrier and the executed innovation that allowed them to overcome the barrier. Discussion will highlight various ideas including innovations that leverage the flexibility of the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, as well as program requirements that may hinder the growth of Home Performance programs and contracting businesses.

Keith Aldridge

Interim President & CEO
Home Performance Coalition

Keith Aldridge is the interim President and CEO at HPC. His role is to lead HPC through the current period of transition. With over 40 years of experience in the residential energy efficiency industry, Keith is known for bringing diverse people and organizations together to produce innovative, high-impact programs and initiatives. As Team Leader of the Applied Building Science Team at Advanced Energy he oversaw the development of the NC “duct school”, one of the nation’s earliest whole-house diagnostic training programs, helped lead a multi-organizational team that developed and ran Environments for Living, a national industry-based high performance new home program, co-led the team that developed the Standardized Work Specifications for the Low Income Weatherization program (responsible for the group processes at six week-long standards development events, involving over 100 contractors and other experts) and has conducted dozens of facilitated meetings and board retreats for groups including local non-profits, Affordable Comfort, EEBA, HPC, and Efficiency First. Keith served two stints on the board of Affordable Comfort, and as board chair helped lead the merger with the National Home Performance Council to form HPC. Keith has an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and a graduate degree from the University of North Carolina.

Joan Glickman

Acting Program Manager, Residential Buildings Integration
U.S. Department of Energy

Joan Glickman is the Acting Program Manager of Residential Buildings Integration at the U.S. Department of Energy. She previously managed the Energy Department's Home Energy Score and Home Energy Information Accelerator programs, which aim to provide consumers with a better understanding of homes' energy performance. Joan coordinates residential energy efficiency programs and works with stakeholders at the national and local levels to ensure that information is reliable as well as compelling, with the goal of encouraging investment in improving the efficiency of our nation's housing stock. She joined the Department's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in 1997 and has held a variety of positions there including Deputy Director of the Federal Energy Management Program.

Ely Jacobsohn

Program Manager, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
U.S. Department of Energy

Ely Jacobsohn is focused on transforming the home improvement market. He joined the U.S. Department of Energy in 2009 has been working in the Building Technologies Office developing strategies, programs and policies to encourage consumers to improve the performance of their homes. Currently, he directs the National Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program and looks for collaboration opportunities to scale home performance and all clean energy. Before joining DOE, Ely worked at the Maryland Energy Administration as the Residential Program Manager, and was one of the architects of the EmPOWER Maryland Act which set a statewide energy efficiency savings target.

Larry Zarker

Larry Zarker is CEO of the Building Performance Institute, the nation's home performance credentialing and standards setting organization. As CEO since 2006, Larry oversees BPI’s network of over 22,000 certified professionals and BPI GoldStar contractors. Under his direction BPI became an ANSI accredited standards development organization and certifying body. Prior to BPI, he served as VP of Marketing with the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, where he worked for 20 years.
