In this session, learn about what EPA's ENERGY STAR product labeling program has done and is thinking of doing with Smart Home products. The session will be structured partly as a presentation, and partly as a discussion. With the discussion, EPA hopes to capture industry wisdom about how smart home products are being deployed, and how they might save (or use more) energy.

Ms. Daken led the development of EPA’s innovative Connected Thermostat specification, which recognizes products that save energy based on how they are used in the homes of actual subscribers. She also manages the requirements for ENERGY STAR heating, cooling, ventilation and water heating products. Before joining EPA in 2010, at various times she has done research in Physics and in sustainability, designed electronics, and studied effective standards. She holds BS and MA degrees in Physics, and a Masters of Engineering and Public Policy.

Taylor Jantz-Sell manages the lighting programs for EPA’s ENERGY STAR products labeling program and coordinates the products program’s strategy for smart home products. Ms. Jantz-Sell has supported the ENERGY STAR program since 2007, working with manufacturers, retailers and utility partners on efforts including specification development, marketing and outreach to advance energy efficiency and transform markets.
