ASHRAE 62.2 Compliance in Weatherization

WAP has been requiring compliance with ASHRAE 62.2 for several years. Through this requirement a lot has been learned about options for installing mechanical ventilation in different situations. Additionally, changes have been implemented into the standard that impact installation options. This session will discuss options for how to meet the 62.2 requirements, including fan location, making use of what you have, controls, and other details.

Residential Energy Dynamics, LLC

Rick Karg was trained as an economist, was a building contractor for ten years, and is now the president of R.J. Karg Associates and Residential Energy Dynamics, LLC. He has been working with weatherization and home performance programs and electric and gas utilities for thirty years as an educator and consultant. Rick is a member of the ASHRAE 62.2 residential ventilation and Residential Building Committees.

Paul W. Francisco

Sr. Research Engineer
Applied Research Institute

Paul Francisco runs the Indoor Climate Research & Training group, which includes an IREC-accredited weatherization training program, at the Applied Research Institute of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He does both research & training on issues related to home performance. His research focuses on indoor air quality and energy efficiency in existing homes, emphasizing field measurements. His training focuses on teaching practitioners building diagnostics and health & safety. He is the current chair of ASHRAE’s Standard 62.2.
