The evolving opioid crisis continues to create a devastating impact on individuals, families, communities, and the healthcare system. Emerging evidence supports the positive impact of nutrition interventions during recovery from alcohol and drug abuse. This presentation will outline the various roles of the RDN as a member of the treatment team.

Tammy Beasley, RDN

Tammy Beasley, RDN, CEDRD, CSSD is a registered, licensed dietitian/nutritionist specializing in disordered eating. Her experience includes clinical dietetics, program director and co-developer of four outpatient nutrition programs in both Alabama and Florida, and maintaining a private practice during her 30+ years of practice. During her tenure as Director of Certification for the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp), the Commission on Dietetic Registration approved the Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD) designation for RDNs practicing in the field of eating disorders. She has been active in local, state, regional and national Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics organizations, including the current role as the Behavial Health Nutrition (BHN) Delegate to the AND House of Delegates. In addition to BHN, Tammy was a founding member and first chairperson of the Nutrition and Dietetics Advisory Board for Auburn University and loves the opportunity to provide in-depth, practical education and support to the RDNs of our future. In November 2015, she was offered the position of National Coordinator for Nutrition Education with Alsana (formerly known as Castlewood) and was recently promoted to Vice President of Clinical Nutrition Services in 2018. Her role with Alsana includes nutrition program and policy development as part of Alsana's Adaptive Care model, training and mentoring the RD teams across all Alsana programs, and speaking at professional conferences about the role of the RDN in the treatment of eating disorders.

David Wiss, MS, RD

David Wiss, MS, RDN is the founder of Nutrition in Recovery, which specializes in: Addictions, Eating Disorders, Mental Health, Body Image, and General Wellness in Los Angeles. Mr. Wiss works closely with individuals to help them revolutionize their relationship with food. David is a nationally recognized expert in nutrition for addiction, and is currently working on his PhD in Public Health from UCLA. Mr. Wiss has authored several journal articles on addictions and eating disorders, including The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics this year.
