This session encourages health professionals to engage in nutrition research by offering guidance on how to identify a research question and develop a research project. These presentations will inspire clinicians and researchers to design their research projects methodically to maximize research integrity and outcome measures.

Yimin Chen, PhD, RD, CNSC

Dr. Yimin Chen has been a practicing nutrition support dietitian for 15 years and has recently transitioned to a translational human milk researcher. She started her research career primarily in adult nutrition support clinical studies before switching gear to neonatology and human milk research during her PhD work in basic science research. Dr. Chen is a research collaborator with the Rush NICU Human Milk Research Program. Her research interest focuses on specific human milk components and how manipulations of human milk feedings affect cellular and intestinal response in premature infants.

Jane Ziegler, PhD, RDN

Jane Ziegler is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Doctorate of Clinical Nutrition. Over 30 years of her clinical practice have been in the areas of adult nutrition support and neonatal, pediatric and adolescent nutrition with emphasis on chronic disease. She has worked primarily in the areas of pediatric pulmonary and gastrointestinal disease as well as pediatric weight management. She provides clinical support in the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine to the specialty clinics of the Orofacial Pain, Oral Medicine, Pediatrics and the Special Needs as well as clinical support in the undergraduate dental clinics. She directs the advanced practice clinical nutrition residency in the DCN. She mentors masters and doctoral student research projects and have been a principal investigator on multiple grants.

Gail Cresci, PhD, RD, LD, CNSC

Dr. Cresci is full staff at the Cleveland Clinic Pediatric Institute & Lerner Research Institute where her role is to conduct and organize her NIH-funded basic and translational research program focusing on the gut microbime and its metabolome in health and pathological states with a focus in pediatrics. Additionally she assists with the development and implementation of clinical nutrition research for the Center for Human Nutrition. Dr. Cresci is the Nutrition Thread Leader for the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine curriculum where her role is to integrate pertinent nutrition content throughout the 5-year medical school curriculum.
