14th Annual Promoting Excellence Symposium
Up to 18% of endurance horses can develop exertional rhabdomyolysis (ER) with endurance races. There are appear to be several underlying causes for ER in Arabian horses. This session will discuss the clinical presentation and underlying basis for several forms of ER in Arabians. Details of a recent study will be presented which sheds new light on the underlying cause of ER in those horses that develop muscle pain and stiffness at the end of endurance rides or after several weeks off prior to resuming exercise.
