George 'Rick' Stouffer, MD is the Henry A. Foscue Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at the University of North Carolina. He received degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from Bucknell University and an MD degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Virginia and was on the faculty at the University of Texas Medical Branch prior to going to UNC. Dr. Stouffer's research is in smooth muscle cell growth regulation, the role of the cytoskeleton in regulating signaling pathways, thrombin generation, myocardial infarction occurring in hospitalized patients and renal artery stenosis.
