Robert J. Lederman, MD, is a senior investigator at the NHLBI, where he leads a program to develop new non-surgical catheter treatments for cardiovascular disease, and that develops and refines radiation-free catheterization using MRI in patients.

He and his team have invented a range of interventional procedures including mitral cerclage annuloplasty for mitral regurgitation, transatrial intrapericardial tricuspid annuloplasty for tricuspid regurgitation, transcaval aortic access, and intentional laceration of the mitral valve to prevent LVOT obstruction after transcatheter mitral valve replacement. His laboratory collaborates with Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit MI and Emory University in Atlanta GA to develop and test new structural heart procedures, and Childrens National Medical Center in Washington DC to introduce MRI catheterization into clinical practice.
